Born and raised in Scotland, Perri Duncan became one of her native lands' best known watercolor artists.

Her mastery of this demanding medium, from colorful washes, and flowing brush strokes,of light and shadow, transmit a warm glow in her paintings of European images and Western landscapes alike.
In her western images, follow the cowboy as he herds his cattle, through scenes of Autumn trees, with glint of shimmering light, and over sage and dusty desert, to distant hills, of purple and blue, with mist shrouded valleys, and snow clad mountains. Her paintings depict the vastness, and often harshness of the land, whilst evoking a sense of tranquility, but also endurance. Through even the toughest of conditions, ranchers , horses, and dogs, work alongside each other to keep the traditions of their way of life alive.

Growing up in an artistic family, it is not surprising that Perri followed a career in the arts. Both her parents painted in watercolor, and took Perri and her brothers on painting trips, where they would paint beaches and country lanes, plein air. Perri's mother Liz,an LRAM pianist, and her father, a structural engineer and former lecturer at Scott Sutherland's school of Architecture, were both an inspiration to her and her two brothers, who both became architects.

Perri's many years as a professional artist started at the early age of 17. Even while studying at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland, collectors bought her work. After a formal training in oil painting, graphic design, lithograph, etching, weaving, and studying the history of Art and Architecture, Perri acquired her Art Degree at the age of 21. She then studied in Edinburgh, for one year, working at the historical Grass Market Art Center, which marked the beginning of her art career, after successfully selling her etchings in London, England. It was not long after this that Perri, on returning to the North decided to add to her portfolio with watercolors. Her inspirations were English Water colorist, John Blockley and American artist, Andrew Wyeth.

After many years of selling her works, exhibited in fine art galleries, in both Scotland and England, and developing a following of collectors of her work, she felt the need to expand. Thus, in the year 2000, she moved from Scotland to the vast, panoramic west, of the United States. As one may instantly see from her current portfolio, she has enthusiastically captured this new, to her, way of life by accurately depicting the Western Lifestyle in her art. She has made her mark as a western painter, winning several awards along the way. Perri spends much of her time traveling the land to do art shows.
If you wish to inquire about "fine art" shows she may be attending in your area, Perri can be contacted at her email address highlandart@hotmail.com

Perri now lives and paints from her studio in the beautiful Ruby Mountains, in Northern Nevada.
